Influence of the road toll - Message from our Managing Director

Announcement by Managing Director Josefina van den Berg.

Starting from 1 July, a road toll system will be introduced in the Netherlands. Josefina van den Berg, Managing Director Netherlands, outlines the expected impact on the Dutch logistics landscape:

The road toll, starting from the 1 July in the Netherlands, requires logistics providers to pay a fee per kilometre driven on Dutch motorways, provincial roads, and selected regional routes. “This introduces an additional cost element in an already competitive and cost-sensitive market,” Josefina explains.

“The road toll has required logistics providers to reassess their fleet and operational execution to stay competitive. There are some factors, such as vehicle age, fuel type, routing, and utilisation that will have an impact on the cost per kilometre. Consequently, this needs to be translated into pricing strategies that will be implemented.”

Josefina explains that at the same time, the introduction of the road toll marks an important step towards more sustainability in the sector. It creates a strong motivation to invest in cleaner technologies, such as low- and zero-emission vehicles, to benefit from reduced toll rates.

“While this development presents new operational challenges for all logistics providers, it also brings a positive long-term perspective. The revenues generated from the toll will be reinvested in transport infrastructure and to support the road to zero-emission mobility. This will reinforces the industry’s collective move towards more sustainable logistics solutions, just as ColliCare aims to do so by implementing the best qualities of each transport mode.”
